Valentine's Day Suicide Note
Married male, age 45* My darling, May her guts rot in hell — I loved her so much. Henry *this note was collected and kept by a coroner, which was later published in a collection of such suicide notes.   Sweet, isn’t it!   Here’s to all the good memories, Henry.  Cheers.  Happy Valentimez Day!

"Date with the Devil" by Olivia Rupprecht
I’ve been thinking about romance novels again…the cheap, tawdry, mass produced kind of romance novels for sale in grocery stores and airports all across America.  Several years ago I began to read romance novels, and wrote a few performance scripts based on a few different types of romance novels:  historical romance, romantic suspense, and erotic romance.   When I stole this...

"Wicked Clown Love" by Neal Medlyn
Neal Medlyn (the seated young gent on the right) is a performer.  He does some really weird, really cool shit.  He briefly lived in Berlin.  He seems really cool and really smart.  His most recent piece, which was performed at The Kitchen in New York City, is titled “Wicked Clown Love”, and here is a description:   Neal Medlyn’s latest “bomb ass music based extravaganza” to quote...

Colette Justine
I did not know until recently that the one and only Colette (aka Colette Justine) was a DAAD fellow and lived and worked in Berlin from 1984-1986.  She produced work here at The Bethanien, which is super close to my flat.  While in Berlin, she continued to play with identity and role-playing, taking on the famous “Mata Hari” as a character.   (Colette/Mata Hari with her potatoes at...

This is a crazy cool installation by artist Zimoun in collaboration with architect Hannes Zweifel.  The sound those little whips make against the cardboard is just crazy!  It would be amazing to make a performance based on, with, and in this installation.

OK Boyfriend: The Breakup
On Thursday, January 12th, I broke up with my OK Boyfriend.  ”Ok Boyfriend”, an installation in my bedroom, was created and installed in November.  After a short and chaotic romance, I decided it would be best for the both of us to break up.  In the long run, the installation was very effective as a psychological/architectural renovation.  Staring at the wall of chaos above my head...

strongkillings: annals video : implied violence show My friends in Strong Killings made this video out of clips from the Implied Violence show “EatFightFuck”.  They played during the show’s intermission, during which a lot of people left because they thought the piece was over.  These guys are really great, cool people and talented musicians!

Catherine Sullivan is one of my favorite video artists.  Her work combines video and performance.  She brilliantly explores dance, theater, film, and installation.  She collaborates with dancers, composers, performers, and designers to make both live performance and film pieces.  I have only seen one of her pieces at The Henry Art Museum in Seattle — the unsettling and curious...

Huffington Post's Top 10 Most Intense Performance... →
All of this performance work is older, foundational performance art…oldies but goodies, I guess you might say!  It would be very difficult for me to choose just 10 performance art pieces for a list such as this one, and I would have chosen different pieces (sometimes by the same artists listed).  The chosen word ‘intense’ is quite subjective and does not really mean anything, and...

When they were good, they were very very good.  When they were bad, they were horrid.  I just found this long lost video gem!  It was made for a project based on “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They” and shows me and an old friend participating in a dance marathon.  The beautiful film was shot at China Harbor, a really weird Chinese restaurant/club in Seattle.  It was shot by Mr....

MISSION (DECLARATION)
Mandie O’Connell/Knuckle Cartel makes site-specific, experimental performance. We prefer to create work with and for the environment, in locations that exist outside of traditional theater spaces.  Theater is boring.  We don’t fuck with it.  (Which means, in fact,  that we do fuck with it, of course.)  Knuckle Cartel’s work treads on the boundaries between dance, performance, installation, and...
